+ Distribution and logistics  


The logistics plateform is one of the strength main line of Marseille textile and SPL garments.

1 - The fashion and garment logistics question is a highly strategic question. Globalise activities, textile and garment characterize by a distribution on a global scale of the different link of the value added. Consequently, logistics is the key factor which groups together the different link of the value added. At the same time logistics capacity determines the choice in matter of sourcing. The logistics performance plays a crucial role in value crystallisation.

2 – The logistics role becomes more important in a period marked by the fall on January 1st 2004 of the customs barrier which for the moment is an obstacle for the Chinese exports. It is clear that logistics performance is a tool, which will permit to the Euro-Mediterranean block to organize its strategy in front of the Asian block .

3 – Beyond the goods transit, which constitutes the visible part of the iceberg, logistics include three additional dimensions :

  • An upstream dimension : logistics means conceiving both best circuits and combination.
  • Information dimension : today the information flow which accompanies the goods is a key element, logistics quality of goods depends strongly on the « information logistics ».
  • A down stream dimension that is within of the plateform (quality control, finishing, packaging , etc).

Through the logistics plateform, the cluster rest on the know how of its territory, Marseille is being one of the big «hubs» of the euro Mediterranean space. It combines with industrials fond of fashion and garment companies in order to build a competitive advantage for fashion and garment industry but also for Marseilles metropolis.
